A lack of documenting unclassified homicides in Australia where foul play was involved but the victim was not deemed deceased has left a large hole in findings made by a QUT criminologist.

Dr Claire Ferguson's research paper Detection avoidance and mis/unclassified, unsolved homicides in Australia co-written with applied victimologist Dr Amber McKinley, suggests detection avoidance behaviours by offenders could lead to homicides or missing person cases being wrongly labelled non-suspicious.
